How do I care for Circo glassware?

Every Circo glass is mouth blown, cut, and hand finished by master craftsmen in Eastern Europe, giving it a quality that machines can’t match and a personal touch that can only be imbued by hand. The material is thickest at the bottom and gradually gets thinner toward the mouth of the glass to make it feel sturdy in the hand, but delicate as it touches your lip.

Our glassware is dishwasher safe. We recommend placing your glassware on the top rack of the dishwasher. Avoid abrasive detergents or extremely high temperature settings. Take care when loading or unloading your glassware. Be extra careful if stacking glasses when storing. If you hand wash your glassware, use a soft brush or cloth and dry inverted on a dish rack or atop a kitchen towel.

How do I care for Circo felt products?

With care, the 100% Merino wool felt Rolocoasters, Centric coasters, and Cozee cup sleeves will last for a long time of typical use. Of the many varieties of wool available, the one we use comes from a specific breed of sheep called Merino. Merino wool is unique among all wool varieties and prized for its strength, flexibility, and softness. The secret of Merino wool is the ultra fine fibers, which allow it 50% more flexibility than traditional, courser wool varieties. Merino fibers are typically much longer, creating density, structure, and highly reduced pilling.

Fortunately, wool is naturally resistant to dirt and stains. Like anything in your home though, they may need to be cleaned occasionally. Being made from 100% merino wool—the process would be similar to caring for quality wool clothing. Most surface stains can be removed with a damp cloth or a soft brush. They may also be hand washed in cool water using a gentle detergent and then allowed to dry completely before use.

How do I care for Circo ceramics?

Our ceramics are handcrafted in a durable, high-quality stoneware clay body and glazed with certified food safe, lead-free glazes. Every piece is oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe; however, hand-washing will always prolong the life of your pottery. We recommend placing your ceramics on the top rack of the dishwasher.

Dirt and stains on unglazed surfaces can be removed with a scrub brush and a bit of baking soda. For stubborn stains or marks, gently sand the surface in a circular motion with a fine-grit sandpaper. Do not expose the wares to sudden, dramatic shifts in temperature (e.g. place into a hot oven from the freezer) or place over an open flame.

To avoid possible discoloration of the glaze, avoid prolonged exposure to, or microwave reheating of, acidic and/or staining beverages such as coffee, red wine, citrus juice, and soda.

Does a Rolocoaster protect the bottom of the glass?

The unique design and shape of a Circo glass allows for absorption of most all drips running down the sides. While the Rolocoaster is an open ended ring, a few features prevent drips gathering on the bottom: the thick bottom glass creates added insulation, the concave bottom causes any significant condensation to be shed off down to the inner felt sidewall, and the felt ring lifts the glass off of the surface by approximately 4mm (also preventing a hard landing from any heavy-handed guests).

Are Rolocoasters guaranteed to stop all drips and rings?

While we can’t guarantee that every drip will be stopped from hitting your tabletop, we’re confident it will stop most all of them. Try not to use a rolocoaster that is already damp from previous use. They can become overly soaked with condensation, and eventually wick through to the bottom. Make sure to slip on a dry one at the beginning of each use. And let them dry thoroughly before using them again.

And to be safe, we suggest not resting your gin & tonic on your copy of the Declaration of Independence. ;-)

Why is Circo designing/selling coasters when your glassware products want to replace them?”

Excellent question. Well, we realize that you’re probably not going to throw away all of your non-Circo glasses—at least not right away. We love wool felt, buy a lot of it, and enjoy working with it—leading us to design a stylish solution for all the other glasses and cups in the world :-)

Why is the image on your site not quite the same as what I received?

Our products are made from hand-blown glass, hand-cast and finished ceramics, and durable merino wool felt. Due to the unique characteristics of those materials, color, texture, or finish variations may present themselves. We portray each of the products on our site as accurately as possible but realize that questions may still arise.

We celebrate variations in texture, size, and finish, that we feel add to the charm of what we make. We carefully inspect all of our pieces for quality, to make sure that none of these variations compromise their durability. We warranty our pieces to be free of manufacturing defects for a year after purchase.

In the event you feel you have a defective item, please contact customer service orders@circolabs.com with a description and a photo of the problem. We’ll diagnose the issue, and then offer to either replace the item or issue you a store credit upon determination of a defect (your choice).
